A cooperation agreement is being signed, in the framework of the EUROsociAL+ and EUROCLIMA+ programmes, to promote good practice between tax administrations
The Director of FIIAPP, Pedro Flores, and the executive secretary and chair of the Governing Body of CIAT, Marcio Verdi and Marta González Alaya
FIIAPP has signed a cooperation agreement with the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), in the framework of the EUROsociAL+ and EUROCLIMA+, programmes financed by the European Commission, in order to promote the exchange of experience, knowledge and good practice among the tax administrations of the European Union and Latin America, and among the Latin American tax administrations themselves.
EUROsociAL+ will promote fair tax systems and help to combat tax fraud. At the same time, EUROCLIMA+ will encourage the exchange of good practice in climate taxation.
This agreement, signed on the one hand by the Director of FIIAPP, Pedro Flores, and on the other by the executive secretary and chair of the Governing Council of CIAT, respectively Marcio Verdi and Marta González Ayala, will equip the tax administrations of Latin America with the tools needed to combat tax fraud and tax evasion, improve the effectiveness and equity of their tax systems and, in general, improve tax policies as regards both revenue and the quality of public spending.
“FIIAPP, in the context of the EU-CELAC cooperation programmes entrusted to it, is engaged with CIAT as a strategic partner and facilitator in bringing about the reform of tax policies in Latin America”, said Pedro Flores on signing the agreement.
This area of work in EUROsociAL+ is in line with the United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030) which calls for a review of the role of fiscal policy in Latin America and also picks up the challenge of the new European Consensus on Development, which has singled out the importance of mobilising and making use of national resources to secure inclusive growth, poverty eradication and sustainable development.
In this respect, FIIAPP has proposed another cooperation agreement with CIAT on exchanging good practice, knowledge and experts in climate taxation in the framework of the EUROCLIMA+ programme, which FIIAPP is taking part in along with other EU agencies.
