Thirty-one police officers and public prosecutors took part in the seminar organised by the FIIAPP from 13 to 17 May in the city ofRecife, Brazil.
Within the framework of the project entitled “AMERIPOL:Strengthening capacities in international cooperation for compliance with the law, judicial authorities and public prosecutors”, the FIIAPPorganised the first course on drug trafficking by air to Europe and Africa, in Recife, Brazil.
Recife, in North-East Brazil, was chosen as the venue of the course because it is in one of the most significant areas in Latin America in terms of drug trafficking to Europe and Africa. In addition, Brazil will be receiving a great number of visitors in the coming years, as it plays host to major events such as the Olympic Games and World Youth Day. Criminal organisations may take advantage of these events to traffic drugs.
The course was given by members of the French Customs Service, the Portuguese Judicial Police, the Spanish Centre for Intelligence against Organised Crime (CICO) and the Brazilian Federal Police.
The course was divided into a theoretical part, which studied the control of documents and goods, international regulations, civil aviation and false documents, and a practical part, which took place at Recife airport, where exercises in the techniques used by the Federal Police of the Anti-Drug Group were carried out.
