Brussels hosted the first project management meeting in which the Member States and African countries participating in it have been present
Within the framework of this meeting, there has been a review and follow–up of the GAR-SI Sahel project , funded by the European Union and managed by the FIIAPP, highlighting how the Rapid Action Groups – Monitoring and Intervention in the Sahel (GAR-SI SAHEL) have been formed by all countries except Chad.
In the case of Mauritania, Niger and Senegal, the first operational results are being presented, such as seizure of illegal weapons or seizure of stolen vehicles, among others. Likewise, the operational units are about to begin activities in Mali and Burkina Faso.
The parties involved expressed their interest in the presented and future results at the event, with particular emphasis being placed on the relevance of both the project and the interventions generated within its framework.
On the other hand, the beneficiaries of the project have requested for more units and greater support for their operations, committing to allocating part of the budgets to lines related to the operation of the units.
The meeting was attended by the director of the FIIAPP, Anna Terrón, the Permanent Secretary of the G5, and representatives of DEVCO, EUTF, DSG, CSPD.Pedro Serrano, Deputy Secretary General of the Common Security and Defence Policy (PSCD), closed the meeting.
The main objective of the Delegated Cooperation project is to contribute to the security of the population and the stabilisation of both the countries involved, and of the regional territories, including the most isolated and cross-border areas.
Thanks to experts from the Civil Guard, work is being carried out in the region to improve internal security, strengthen the capabilities of its security forces and improve cross-border cooperation. The work is being carried out in collaboration with experts from the French Gendarmerie, the Caribinieri and the Republican National Guard.
