In Montevideo, the launch workshop for the South-South Cooperation project for the promotion of public policy evaluation in Latin America and the Caribbean was held
The workshop was held to officially launch the project before the regional authorities and representatives of the European Commission. In addition, the event served as the approval of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) by the organisations participating in the project.
The attendees at the launch event were unanimous in the interest they showed in the project, highlighting the usefulness of sharing visions and experiences related to the evaluation of public policies among institutions.
The Deputy Director of the National Planning and Budgeting Office of the Ministry of the Presidency of Uruguay, Martín Dibarboure, the host of the activity, stressed the importance of evaluation as a “tool for detecting achievements or correcting the course of policies, as the case may be, in addition to its focus on meeting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
On the part of FIIAPP, Miguel Ángel Lombardo, the project administrator, presented the lines of action, which constitute the basis for the work planned for the next three years, and their respective conceptual focus.
During the three-day workshop, there was discussion about the preparation of the National Evaluation Agendas, the institutionalisation of evaluations in the Latin American region, as well as strategies for generalising the use of evaluation and quality accreditation methods for these evaluation studies.
These and other issues will be addressed in depth and jointly by the participating institutions during the next few years of the project’s execution, which likewise includes plans to develop various public policy evaluation processes.
