In Rabat, Morocco, the FIIAPP closed the French-Spanish 'Supporting the National Research System' project.
The project was led by the Spanish Ministry of the Economy and Competitiveness and the French Ministry of Tertiary Education and Research.
After ten years of scientific cooperation, Morocco has demonstrated its ambition to move closer to Europe through the development of the research and innovation sector, and this project has helped the country to achieve that.
During the 26 months of the project, 188 missions of Spanish and French experts took place, representing 790 days of work, and it also had the collaboration of Belgian, German and Swedish experts.
Thanks to the work carried out, Morocco is present in the Euro-Mediterranean Research and Innovation Space. In addition, collaboration with Spanish institutions has been strengthened, such as the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council), the CDTI (Centre for Industrial Technological Development) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
The importance of the sector is reflected in meetings such as the visit by the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela Olmo, to establish priority areas in the sphere of innovation: food and agricultural biotechnology, solar energy, maritime resources and climate change, and the meeting of “Dialogue 5+5”[1] or the “Western Mediterranean Forum”, which will be held in Rabat in September this year.
The FIIAPP managed a budget of 1,350,000 euros from the EU.
