The European Union-financed programme organises a gender meeting in Paris to share approaches from Europe and Latin America
The fight against gender violence is currently a priority in Latin America and Europe. This type of violence manifests itself in the public, private and international spheres in the form of trafficking and prostitution networks. EUROsociAL+ supports the task undertaken in the countries that make up Latin America to build and strengthen tools to apply the law and change the outlook of officials.
For this reason, the programme financed by the European Union and managed by FIIAPP – together with Expertise France and IILA – organised a gender meeting in Paris. This promoted dialogue between Europe and Latin America in the search for joint solutions to combat gender violence and to continue improving public policies, social cohesion and citizen participation in Latin America.
EUROsociAL + promotes various actions to support Latin American countries in formulating and improving policies to combat gender violence. This includes mobilising European good practices, facilitating dialogue between justice operators and social services, optimising the articulation of the entire chain, from the improvement of sanctions to supporting, protecting and compensating victims; and promoting prevention and education.
This particular meeting transitioned from discussion to field work as participants were introduced to six experiences in combating gender violence in the districts and towns of metropolitan Paris. Participants experienced the promotion of the use public space by women with the Paris Macadam association, the specialised care offered in five types of shelters operated by the L’Escale association, the comprehensive care offered by the Women’s House in Seine-Saint Denis, urban security for women in Ivry, the coordination of stakeholders in Malakoff, the local vision of the fight against gender violence in La Courneuve, and the network to fight gender violence and promote the participation of women in Paris’s 18th district.
