Improvement of maritime customs surveillance in Turkey

For the next 18 months, FIIAPP will be managing this project funded by the European Commission in partnership with Douanes & Droits Indirects, France's Directorate-General of Customs and Indirect Taxes. Experts from Spain's AEAT and IEF will be working jointly with their French counterparts with the aim of improving Turkey's maritime customs surveillance capacity and ensuring that operational procedures comply with the obligations established by the European Union for Member States.

Fighting fraud passing through maritime spaces has become a major objective in countries with long coastlines. Turkey is similar to Spain in many respects, as both have to deal with a strait that represents a bottleneck for maritime traffic, and both are a bridge between two continents. This project aims to help Turkey improve the procedures of its Ministry of Customs for fighting illegal trade, counterfeiting, and related crimes.
