ECI Niger III – Joint Investigation Team for the fight against criminal networks linked to immigration

iger is currently one of the main transit routes for African migration to the Mediterranean.

The objective of this project is to contribute to the fight against criminal networks linked to trafficking in human beings, smuggling of migrants, document forgery and related crimes in Niger and neighbouring countries, while also promoting the creation of an international protection zone against this type of crime.

To this end, in the previous phases of the project, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been set up between the police forces of Niger, Spain and France. The project supports and develops the work of the JIT in order to

1) Strengthen the operational capacities and achieve a sustained investigation clearance rate of the services of the Direction de la Surveillance du Territoire (DST - Niger Police).

2) Improve judicial, institutional and international cooperation.

For five years, the FIIAPP will manage this project, funded by the European Commission with 13,000,000 euros, with the collaboration of the Spanish National Police Force and the French National Police (through Civipol).
