NORPREVSEC: Preventing electoral violence and strengthening security in Ghana

As part of the various actions being carried out to implement the Counter-Terrorism Action Plan, FIIAPP coordinates the Preventing Electoral Violence and Providing Security to the Northern Border Regions of Ghana (NORPREVSEC) programme, which aims to strengthen resilience and security in the five northern regions of Ghana.

NORPREVSEC is implemented through three lines of action led by different actors. The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) helps to reduce the risk of political and inter-community violence. The NGO COGINTA creates and strengthens structures for violence prevention and peacebuilding, especially early prevention systems. FIIAPP builds the capacity of Ghanaian police forces in intelligence and prevention of radicalisation and violent extremism.

The FIIAPP-led component focuses on mobilising experts for targeted training of key Ghanaian law enforcement personnel in border areas to strengthen intelligence gathering, management and analysis capacity and inter-district and cross-border communication channels to counter terrorism, curb radicalisation and root out violent extremism.
